Above No One, Below No One
"I'm not interested in whether you've stood with the great; I'm interested in whether you've sat with the broken." - Sue Fitzmaurice
It is east at times easy to be drawn to the glitz and the glamour of the people, places and things around us. It can liven our soul to feel at the center of activity and attention. Inherently, there is nothing wrong with that. We just cannot ignore those that are hurting. It can be uncomfortable, even awkward digging down deep with someone who is struggling. We need to know our boundaries, our truth, and yet, to show up for someone who needs it can make all of the difference in the world. In a time of darkness, we have an opportunity to be a ray of light.
Someone once told me, we are all but one choice away from being like someone else. That could be a good or not so good thing. We are human, we make choices. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. We often proceed through life on autopilot - unaware of what is not directly in front of us, and simply stay the surface. Until we don't. It's not until the surface gives, and for whatever reason, we fall.
Aspirations of success have their place, and nothing is wrong with wanting to climb high in our lives. However, everyone stumbles, everyone falls. I believe we are here to help one another. To share our stories of pain, sorrow, joy, and the lessons we have learned along the way opens our hearts and minds to see ourselves in one another; see the similarities more than the differences. We are above no one, below no one. Sitting with one who is going through a time of brokenness, not only helps them, it sends of ripple of healing throughout the world. Start the ripple.
