Creamy Honey and Cinnamon Chickpea Dip


Yields: about 2 cups Prep Time: 5 minutes Total Time: 10 minutes

Fiber and protein rich chickpeas share the stage here with creamy and calcium rich cream cheese, blending perfectly with a bit of naturally sweet honey and a depth of flavor from ground cinnamon. Great as a fruit dip and especially delicious with cinnamon sugar pita chips!


1 cup chickpeas, drained

1 cup cream cheese (I prefer whipped)

1/4 cup high quality honey

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract


1. Drain and rinse chickpeas

2. Place chickpeas, cream cheese, honey, vanilla and cinnamon in a food processor. Process until smooth, about one minute.



3. For best results, refrigerate dip before serving. (But if you just can’t wait, it’s perfectly delicious immediately!)


Although it’s the New Year, traditionally a time of healthy focused eating, I usually try to keep it health-filled year round. January can be especially tough. It’s after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and many feel it’s hard to get back to the daily grind – like we’re somehow needing to deprive ourselves.

However, that’s not necessary to feel such a sacrifice if you can find a way to incorporate nutrient filled ingredients with great flavor and a bit of depth. And that’s what this dip does.


Chickpeas are not only a rich vegetarian source of protein and fiber, they also are a source of calcium, folate and manganese. Additionally, they help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Cream cheese – well, it’s cream cheese. And it’s delicious. I prefer to support organic dairy products, ensuring they are free of GMOs, antibiotics and hormones (residues from the animals from which they are sourced). Cream cheese, in its purest form is a source of protein, as well as calcium. It also blends really well with the chickpeas to create a creamy dip full of depth.


Honey mixes perfectly, providing a natural source of sweetness, which is brought out even more by ground cinnamon.

We enjoyed this dip with cinnamon sugar pita chips. Fruit, especially bananas, are also a great option for dipping as well!
